Perth - AQWA

AQWA  - The Aquarium Of Western Australia... Don't you love that acronym? So perfect!

Located in Hillary's Boat Harbour, AQWA is the largest aquarium in Australia. How does it compare to SEAquarium in Singapore? Well, AQWA is smaller (felt like erm... only half the size ) .... but it has an amazing amount of corals... and their touch pool is larger and more fun with fish, stingrays and baby sharks to touch... the one in Singapore only has starfish and the touch tank for that so small.... overall AQWA is less crowded than SEAquarium. Crowds annoy me.

Their shark tank has a conveyor belt which takes you through the tunnel. You can also pay to have a snorkel with the sharks session but the kids have to be 14yrs and above for this.

This is the touch pool, the kids loved it. Myla wet her whole tshirt leaning in to touch the sharks. We didn't bring spare clothes and it was cold!!! (We just drove to target straight after and bought her a new tshirt ($2 only) to change into.

Starfish were easy to touch but the fish and sharks and stingray were a little trickier for the kids to reach as they swim around... but not impossible with a little help from daddy.
Here's Adamson being envious of their coral and wishes they were in his tank at home  wakakakaka.

When you buy your entry tickets at the front counter before entering AQWA, check out the time slots available for the boat ride. The combo ticket (AQWA entry + Glass bottom boat ride) is AUD 42 for adults and AUD 29 for kids (4-15yrs). We got the family pacakage AUD 130 for 2 adults 2 kids. If you don't want the glass bottom boat ride, just the standard entry into AQWA is AUD 32 for adults and AUD 19 for kids.
It's a glass bottom boat, that goes "behind the scenes"... in the main aquarium tank, so you get views that you would not get just looking through the glass of the main tank. Fully guided tour, and very safe.. slow moving boat. Kids have to be 4 years and above. We got close up views of their giant turtle, some nurse sharks, large rays... definitely worth going for.

Thumbs up for AQWA, add it to your itinerary especially if you have kids.
