Updates from Hong Kong

Here are some snippets and info from our trip so far...
As I mentioned previously, we're staying at the Cosmo Hotel Mongkok. As with most hotels in Hong Kong, the rooms are small. But this hotel is new, modern and clean. Cost us about sgd$150 a night, including taxes but not including breakfast. Cons are- it's not that close to the Mongkok shopping area (like Langham Place and Ladies market) but still not too bad because there is a free hotel shuttle bus there every hour.
Another con is that when I booked this room, it stated Free in room wifi. But when we checked in, I was told it's only one hour a day free. And if I would like to purchase the package, I can get 24hours wifi access in room, ( It was something like 660HKD for a week lah! Sgd100). I didn't buy the package because i didn't think I'd be using that much of the computer while on holiday anyway. Then it turns out, while in my room, I can log on to the free wifi from hotel next door! Rosedale Kowloon. (This hotel looks nice btw)
It's a good area for food ( I suppose most of Hong Kong is!). There are the usual charsiew and duck noodle type stalls .... and we also found a nice Japanese restaurant nearby.  Not bad...
Just across from the hotel is a MacDonald's. I got the Hello Kitty Circus of Life edition there, I chose the Trapeze one... the rest are quite boyish, I don't like... also I'm not collecting Mac Kitty plushies.
Olympic MTR station is about a 5 minute walk away. And at this station you will find Olympian City (huge mall). Very clean and spacious and new. I had drunken chicken at their Food Republic there. (I'm wearing the Ecru Crop Top which is one of my designs for the upcomming HollyJean X ClubCouture collection)
Good range of shops there. You can get practically everything you need. Our first day here, we went to Trainer steet/shoe street (Fa Yuen Street) in Mongkok (this is near the ladies Market, not near our hotel)... David was looking for Nike Air Max. People always say this is the street to go to for shoes. But I found it disappointing. So hot and sticky... and it's just a street with shoe shops all selling similar stuff. The price was not as cheap as I expected either.

Proper stores there  ( like Nike stores, Adidas stores) with price tags were selling the Air max he wanted at around HKD $1499 (sgd$245). In Singapore they're just slightly higher priced. So we didn't buy. In the end, we ventured into Olympian City near our hotel one afternoon, and found that all those stores were in this mall anyway.... and prices were lower. (Not much lower.. like 10% less.. but STILL... i am disappointed with Shoe Street)
If you take the Tung Chung Line from Olympic MTR station and get off at Hong Kong Station ( 2 stops), you can walk to places like Lan Kwai Fong...
And SOHO area. Both nice for drinks and food. There's also shopping at the soho area.
David's first time going up to Victoria Peak. From Central MTR station (this station is linked underground from Hong Kong Station).. you can walk to the peak tram terminus on Garden Road. It's HKD75 for a sky pass,, which gives you 2 way tram ride and entry into the observation deck.
Gorgeous views. It was a pretty clear day for us.
And sooo windy.... it'hot in Hong Kong right now.... but still not as sticky hot as Singapore is.
We also went up to the Ritz Carlton's Ozone bar. Which is on the 118th floor. Actually SKY100 is in this same building,18 floors below OZONE bar. And SKY100 is like a viewing gallery where you can look at the HK skyline. something like $160HKD to get in. So we found it a much better option to just go to the Ritz Carlton for drinks instead. (This hi-lo teal dress is also a piece from my upcoming collection)
Not that expensive, happy hour (5-8pm) is just HKD100 per drink.... but we had many many... lol... cos we stayed until late to see the skyline light up. Very beautiful city.

It's been 4 days in HK, and we're both tired. We have a couple more days left here... It's a nice vibrant city... but we're looking forward to heading off to Vietnam next week. Next stop ... Hanoi!

Hi Holly, Rosedale is a better hotel in my opinion, having also stayed in Cosmo Mongkok before in Feb last year. I was at Rosedale Kowloon this Mar, got an exec room at S$133 a night (from hotelclub), incl breakfast, free wifi and free welcome drink at its rooftop bar. They also offered free shuttle to Mongkok, HarbourCity and 2 other locations which i can't remember. Service wise, both hotels are comparable, design wise i feel that Rosedale is better (Cosmo has too many mirrors in its room and a weird glass cabinet wardrobe?) with a nice sitting area at its window and a proper wardrobe albeit a small one. You may consider it on your next HK trip. Enjoy your trip!! Ps: There's a TimHoWan at Olympian City. Also, you may want to try taking the StarFerry at ard 11pm at night, nice view, cost very little and its very smoothing and romantic to take it at night with loved ones. =)
