ASK Holly Jean: How To Look Skinny

It's been a while since the last ASK HJ column. So here it is... :)

Dear Holly Jean,

I used to be fit and active. I just had a baby and now I have stretchmarks and I am FAT! I put on 24Kgs during pregnancy, and after giving birth, I only lost 7 Kgs! So the rest of the extra weight is MINE! I am even heavier than my husband now. It’s depressing me.

I cannot exercise much now, because I have a job and I am busy taking care of my baby girl. I have no money for a “quick fix” like surgery. But I am getting so depressed with my body. Feel so insecure because the girls at my workplace are skinny. What can I do to make me appear skinny… until I have the time to hit the gym again.

Baby Fat

--------
Dear Baby Fat,

Firstly, Congratulations on your baby girl!!!

Actually, this is one of the reasons I fear getting pregnant. But there are women out there who lose the pregnancy weight and look great. So think positive, and aim to be that woman.

Until you have time to exercise ( I know it must be hell trying to balance work and the baby now)... here are…

Holly Jean’s Top 5 Insta-Skinny Tips:

5. Get a tan. A healthy looking tan gives the impression of a toner body. If you can’t get any sun, you may want to experiment with self-taners. (though I heard self tanners can be a nightmare, like too orangey)

4. Wear Heels. It lengthens your body and makes your legs look skinny. (Not chunky heels though, they're ugly! Stilletos or wedges are nice)

3. Support Underwear. If you want to appear skinny in clothes and give the illusion of a skinny figure, go for supportive underwear which help to pull in the tummy. Yeah... I mean those panties with the high waists. You can go back to sexy thongs and Gstrings when you lose the excess fat! Support underwear doesn't have to be unsexy though.. think lovely corsets, and support pantyhose/tights.

2. Colour. It's not just black that makes you look thinner. Wearing an entire outfit of just one color will do the trick as well, whether it is white, beige, brown, blue or red. One color tends to elongate your figure. (and NO horizontal stripes!)

1. Posture. Pull shoulders back, chest forward and gently suck stomach in. Be proud of who you are, and how you look, regardless of your pregnancy fat.

Once, again, congratulations on the new baby!

Forever,
Holly Jean

    Hi Holly Jean,

I have put on weights around my upper thigh, very near the pubic area, so much so that when I walk, my thighs, rub against each other. You know which part I am talking about now, right?

I would like to engage in some toning and trimming exercise that will tone and trim the fats around that area. What is a good suggestion?

Hmm..I hope you are not going to suggest gym or swimming cos I do not have access to these two. I have been doing leg raises and stomach crunches while watching tv for the last one week. But the fats do not seem to go away.

    What would you recommend?

  2. Hi dear...

well.. those leg raises and crunches are gd for toning up the muscle. But you have to do like millions before it starts burning fat.

In order to lose fat around tht are, I'm sorry but it's hard work :( try walking and then as you get fitter, go jogging for 30 mins. increase pace/lenght as you go along.

Keep the area tht chaffs (rubs) as dry as you can. you may want to wear bicycle shorts under your jogging shorts.. otherwise if it rubs and you sweat.. it will hurt.

    Hi Holly,

Just wondering, since you have a very fantastic figure, how many times you exercise per week?

    Hi HJ,

Thanks for your suggestion. It is indeed demoralizing to learn that I have to do millions of raises and crunches for my fats to start burning. :( Boo Hoo!!!

Well, I guess I will have to jog then. Will blading help?

  5. yes. blading! plus it's not as boring as jogging.

but u must do it for a long distance, like up down east coast park for 30 mins min. at a good pace.

plus if you squat/ bend ur knees as u glide.... u get a great bum work out

Hi Holly, your tips on looking skinny sounds great to me!

Just my 2 cents here, breastfeeding can help one achieve the ideal weight after giving birth. So you don't have to worry about getting pregnant :)

Just to share, I just delivered my baby few months ago and I've lost 4kg off my pre preg weight when I feed with breast milk and infant formula.
