One of the first times I got drunk and regretted it terribly was back in 2007! It was at the Siloso beach party on new year's eve. Alcohol made me feel like a superhero, I jumped off the platform I was dancing on and landed awkwardly on my right foot. I had to hobble home AND I lost my handphone that night (try making your way out of Sentosa after a New Year's eve party).
After that I was always very cautious with alcohol, and watched what I drank. Until 3 Christmases ago in Phuket... I was at a Christmas party, with my then long term boyfriend Mark. It was the first time I was meeting all his friends. Dinner was late, my stomach was empty, I was nervous, so I decided to drink my wine rather quickly (for a boost in confidence). What a mistake!
30 minutes later, I stood up to go to the ladies room. And on my way back to the table, I realised oh oh.. I'm drunk!! And there's really no turning back! I can't remember anything at all other than that. I was was told the next day that I was up dancing on the dinner table (and kicked people's wine glasses off the table). It was all amusing until I started vomiting. They had to sit me outside the restaurant (see pic above), until the cab came to take me back to the hotel.
We never even made it to the main course. I had a major hangover for remainder of holiday. Plus I lost my new bracelet (which was an expensive Christmas present from Mark).
Now, whenever I am out partying, I pace myself, and watch what I drink.. There's nothing worse than blowing my whole weekend feeling hung over. And I know for a fact that being the drunk party girl with her skirt up in the air is not something to be proud of. Alcohol throws your dignity out the window.
Of course, that doesn't mean that you can't still go out to a party and have fun. Here are my tips for being the Last Man (or Woman) Standing whenever you're out partying.
1. Never drink on an empty stomach.
Food will help absorb some of the alcohol in your system.
2. Alternate alcohol with water.
If you sip your drinks rather than gulping them, and drink a glass of water in between your alcoholic drinks, you will not only save money, but have a better chance of staying sober too.
3. Opt for mocktails instead. They look fantastic, taste good and you can keep going the whole night long.
4. Never mix alcohols
NEVER!!!! Don't do one beer, then a Martini followed by a glass of wine. This is the fast track to getting drunk and waking up with an awful hangover. You are far better off drinking the same kind of alcohol instead of mixing.
For more information and tips, do check out the Last Man Standing Facebook page and Website. :)
Do you have drunken moments you regret?
And according to my lecturer, have more fatty food! The more the better. It'll help prevent the alcohol from being absorbed as much!
ReplyDeleteI can take any kind of alcohol, even absinth, without getting drunk but wine just kills me. I vomit, hyperventilate and even black out on wine. Must be the fermented grapes or something my body can't take!
ReplyDeleteNever really gotten that drunk.
ReplyDeleteAttended a house warming party of my colleague and everyone there was fillipino and i was the only chinese. So i just sat and drank the vodka they gave me.
& you should totally see how good drinker fillipinos are!!
by the second sip i was half drunk. Felt like my world was spinning. I refuse to budge and get up from my seat when they asked me to dance as i don't want to make a fool out of myself :(
From that day onwards, i don't drink unless i'm with my friends.
